I am excited to serve as this year's Cultural Climate
Committee chairperson. As a member of the trustees for the school, I know
that the leadership, faculty, staff, parents and students of St. Paul's are
committed to embracing diversity from all walks of life.
The committee is off to a great start. We have set the
following three goals for the 2013-2014 school year:
1.
Assisting in outreach efforts to recruit faculty and staff;
2.
Assisting in outreach efforts to recruit students; and
3.
Communicating to the St. Paul's community more about the work of Michelle
Johnson and our committee.
Michelle Johnson is our diversity coordinator at St.
Paul's. She is doing a wonderful job and daily improves the educational
opportunities for all our students. Michelle regularly posts to the
diversity blog if you are interested in learning more about what she does and
her goals for the year.
We have already met with representatives from a local
hospital. During that first recruiting lunch we were asked "Tell us
about diversity at St. Paul's. That is
an important issue for our doctors and administrators who come from all across
the world." That single statement describes the vision of not only
the Cultural Climate Committee, but all of the St. Paul's community. We
want our school and students to embrace people from all around the world.
Not only does today's business world look, act and speak in wonderful new ways,
but our faith tells us to love our neighbor, whoever they are. Our
students must be prepared to excel in life and be welcoming to all people is as
important as reading, writing and arithmetic.
The Cultural Climate Committee will be meeting throughout
the school year and we welcome your ideas, input and advice. Please
consider joining our blog - http://spedsdiversitydialogue.blogspot.com/
This is a great way to keep up on all the wonderful activities and to find
excellent resources. Thank you for supporting Diversity at St. Paul's!
