On Monday, Author Eloise Greenfield spent most of the school day reading poetry to three groups of students - from kindergarten up to the sixth grade.
Yet, it turns out that St. Paul's had been using Mrs. Greenfield's book "Honey, I Love" for more than 15 years. In fact, coincidentally, kindergartners were starting a Valentine's Day project the day of Mrs. Greenfield visit. Mrs. Greenfield visited ECC and signed the often-used book and was all smiles in hearing from the teachers the joy her book has provided over the years to our students.
Since this is Black History Month, Mrs. Greenfield's visit put a living and personal face to illustrating the contributions that African-Americans make to the rich, varied fabric of American life.
In her mid-80s and partially blind now, Ms. Greenfield has written and had published more than 40 books for children of all ages. Her visit exposed our children to a vast array of diversity - race, gender, age and disability.
In addition to Mrs. Greenfield's time spent with the children, eighteen of her books were donated to the St. Paul's library. A special thanks to Patricia Loftman, a St. Paul's grandparent, in helping to make this all happen.
Mrs. Greenfields's visit was educational, fun and inspiring and will continue to have a permanent mark on the lessons and hearts of our students and community.
